Joe's Boat Watch

Joe's Boat Watch.

Category: web-site + widget
built. July, 2008

Joe Hinton cares for people's boats during the winter months in Seward, Alaska. That might seem like an odd trade, but according to a major U.S. marine insurance company, for every boat that sinks underway, four boats sink in their slip. Many boat owners take comfort knowing their multi-thousand dollar investment is under careful eye.

Joe provides his customers a Boat Watch Web Portal with personal online boat log, secure digital images, and notes and observations regarding the state of people's boats.

When building Joe's web-site it became clear that adding boat logs, uploading photos, and reporting daily on boat status could be very time intensive. We built Joe's web-site to help speed up the process:

  1. We use Assetnow Content Management System (CMS) to host private boat logs, notes, observations, and status of vessels. Updates to the site require no HTML, programming, and can be done with a simple web-form.
  2. We created a custom widget for Assetnow that allows Joe to upload and sync Flickr digital photos to private boat owner accounts.

Joe can now setup a private web-portal for each of his clients with the content management system, upload daily photos to Flickr, and make comments in each client's boat log all in a few minutes.

Note: Using an application called Airme Joe can take photos, add titles, comments, and upload all this information directly to Flickr from an iPhone. Joe can update his client's web-portals right there on the dock.
